I got a message to say that I have been gifted 500 gems. I tried to add it to my previous amount of gems to no avail. I cannot get those 500 gems into my gem account.

They would have been gifted to you automatically. go to your profile and look down at the bottom, where it says GIFTS and it should show you got them… i would submit a request (top right) with your personal info.
Gems don’t show up in the gift section. And you don’t have to click anywhere to receive them, they are added automatically to your gem total.
